The Queen's Beasts coins are British coins issued by the Royal Mint in gold and silver since 2016. Each of the 10 planned coins in the series features a stylized version of one of the heraldic Queen's Beasts statues present at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II representing her royal line of ancestry. The silver coin is notable as it marks "the first time an official two-ounce United Kingdom silver bullion coin has been struck". The entire series' designs are to be created by engraver Jody Clark. In December of 2016, a full line of Proof quality coins was announced.
The Queen's Beasts are ten heraldic statues representing the genealogy of Queen Elizabeth II. They stood in front of the temporary western annex to Westminster Abbey for the Queen's coronation in 1953. Each of The Queen's Beasts consists of an heraldic beast supporting a shield bearing a badge or arms of a family associated with the ancestry of Queen Elizabeth II. They were commissioned by the British Ministry of Works from sculptor James Woodford (who was paid the sum of £2,750 for the work). They were uncoloured except for their shields at the coronation.
The Queen's beasts are: The Lion of England, The White Greyhound of Richmond, The Yale of Beaufort, The Red Dragon of Wales, The White Horse of Hanover, The White Lion of Mortimer, The Unicorn of Scotland, The Griffin of Edward III, The Black Bull of Clarence and The Falcon of the Plantagenets.
